Jeff Asante
BackAccess and Outreach Officer
I am responsible for our attainment raising programme in Aylesbury Vale Academy and delivering targeted outreach. I also deliver the Pioneers programme targeted at either Black African/Caribbean or mixed heritage students or Bangladeshi/Pakistani or mixed heritage female students. Day-to-day I work with young people by delivering events in school and co-ordinating events away from school which support students to make the most of their future.
More about me:
I have been working with young people since 2006. I initially volunteered as a support youth worker, and have since been involved in roles related to helping young people develop skills and guiding them to make informed decisions.
Prior to joining Study Higher, I occupied a variety of roles in higher education during and after my undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. I was involved in various university in-reach and outreach widening participation projects, as a Mentor, Coach and Project Officer; assisting undergraduate students to maximise their potential and also organising and delivering primary and secondary school enrichment activities aimed at increasing awareness about careers and their next educational steps.
Outside of work I have a particular interest in how new technologies, such as Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR), can enhance and better engage young people in their learning experiences. This stems from my previous roles as a Software and Web developer.
